Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls’ High School was founded on the 22nd of January, 1960 by the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, a mission set up to propagate the religion of Islam, and promote the spiritual and physical wellbeing of its members. The school commenced her journey of existence at Block 1, located within the premises of Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Randle Avenue, Surulere. The total student population at the time was Sixty (60). In 1962, the school was relocated to Randle Road, Apapa, and finally in 1974 moved to her present permanent site at 71/77, Onitire Road, Itire – Surulere, Lagos State.
Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls High School remains one of the oldest secondary schools in Lagos State sharing the unique legacy status with such schools as Kings College, Queens College Yaba, Ansar-Ud-Deen College – Isolo, Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School – Randle Avenue (Surulere), St. Finbars College, Akoka, Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Federal Science & Technical College, Yaba and a few others who have today come together to form an Association known as Lagos First Generation Heritage Colleges Association (LAFGHECA).
In 1976, Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls’ High School came under the control of the Lagos State Government following the then Federal Military Government policy to convert all mission schools to public schools. In November 2006, the then Lagos State civilian administration saw the need to return some compulsorily acquired secondary schools to their original owners. Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls’ High School benefitted from that reversal policy of government. Ansar-Ud-Deen Girls’ High School was consequently handed over to Ansar-Ud-Deen Education Trust (ADET) which Board of Trustees is chaired by a legal colossus, rights activist, accomplished public sector administrator and former minister of works in the Yakubu Gowon military administration, Alhaji Abdul Lateef Olufemi Okunnu (SAN, CFR) In order to give the school the desired direction, the B.O.T Chairman brought on board a solid team of professionals from diverse background as members of the Board of Governors. The BOG is chaired by a reknowned educationist and former Permanent Secretary in the Lagos State Civil Service, Alhaja Sidikat Afinowi..
In the BOT Chairman’s characteristic manner of seeking the best hands to pilot the day-to-day affairs of the school, Mrs. Mohammed Sherifat Bimbo was appointed to succeed Alhaja R.O. Yusuff in 2019, following the latter’s voluntary retirement. Mrs. Mohammed S.B comes from a rich background of professional excellence as a skilled accomplished school administrator and former Director/School Principal in the Lagos State Civil Service with over three decades of unblemished meritorious service. She is a two-time Lagos State Productivity award winner, among other distinguished laurels in recognition of her creativity and boundless energy in touching the lives of vulnerable indigent students, dedication to duty, and high moral integrity in managing human and financial resources under her care.
